Carl Adney
Archie Carl Adney, 96,
McGregor, Iowa, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home,
Prairie du Chien, WI, following a brief illness. Archie was born on December 22,
1911, rural McGregor, Iowa, to Arthur S. and Edna (Love) Adney. He attended
Pleasant Ridge Country School through the eighth grade. Archie left home at the
age of fifteen and worked where ever he could find work to do.
Archie was united in marriage to Adeline Kamp in Oelwein,
Iowa, on October 31, 1933. Five children were born to this union. Archie was a
farmer, pilot, carpenter, hunter, fisherman, wine maker and raised Appaloosa
horses. Archie and Adeline loved traveling and spent many winters in Texas. They
along with their children traveled the United States every year since 1946. He
was a 4-H leader and was actively involved in Clayton County Farm Bureau for
many years as a member and board member.
Survivors include three daughters, June (Bernell) Larson,
McGregor, Myrna Schmelzer, Garnavillo, Sharon (Gene) Peters, Monona; one son,
Allen Adney, McGregor; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren;
eight great great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Loraine Adney.
Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline, in 1998;
one infant son, Alton; one grandson, Timothy Tangeman; two great grandsons, Ross
and Ryan Wilke; one great granddaughter, Katrina Peters; two sons-in-law, Fred
Tangeman and Gene Schmelzer; one daughter-in-law, LaVerna Adney; four brothers
and four sisters.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, July 21, 2008, at 10:30
am at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, Iowa. The Rev. Dennis
Gilbert officiated.
Burial followed in Council Hill Cemetery, rural McGregor,
Iowa.

Lynn Noesen
July 2, 1954 -July 13, 2008
Lynn M. Noesen, age 54,died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic after a short illness.
Services will be Friday at the Church of the Resurrection,
Dubuque, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery and visitation is
from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Church. The Behr Funeral Home is in charge
of the arrangements. The Parish Wake Service will be said at the Church on
Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Lynn was born July 2, 1954 in Torrington, Wyoming, daughter
of Charles F. and Joanne S. (Loetz) Brooks.
Lynn was a graduate of Mar-Mac High School in McGregor, Iowa
and then attended the University of Northern Iowa and Clarke College.
She married David P. Noesen on January 17, 1976, at St. Mary's Church in
McGregor. Lynn has been employed by Dubuque Community Schools for 31 years and
was currrently working in Learning Resource Center at Eisenhower School. She was
a member of Resurrection Parish. In her spare time, Lynn enjoyed reading and
making crafts. She was especially devoted to her pets. Lynn will be sadly missed
by her family and her school"family".

and Joanne Brooks, McGregor; two brothers, Joseph C. (Sharon) Brooks,
Gainesville, Florida and Robert R. (Amber) Brooks, Altamonte Springs, Florida;
nieces and nephews; aunt & uncle, Charlotte (Lane) OÕRourke, Dubuque,
Iowa;Special Friend, Sandra Schiltz, Dubuque, Iowa.

Robert W. Boeke
Robert W. (Bob) Boeke, of
Ames, died Friday, July 4, 2008, due to complications following heart surgery at
Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
He was born on July 28, 1925 and was raised on the family
farm in Hubbard, Iowa.
He started college at Iowa State in 1943 but left the
following year to learn to be a pilot in the U.S. Navy. He returned to college
after his discharge, where he met and married Roberta (Bobbie) Starbuck on
September 6, 1947.
By 1950, he had completed his education obtaining a Bachelors
degree in General Engineering and a Masters in Industrial Engineering. The
following year he began a 35- year career with John Deere working at a variety
of manufacturing sites in Iowa and Illinois. In 1968, he and his family moved to
Heidelberg, Germany, where he served as head of all Deere operations in Europe,
Africa and the Middle East. Four years later, he returned to Moline serving as
Vice President of manufacturing, farm equipment and consumer products. He joined
the Board of Directors for Deere in 1979 and served as head of the John Deere
Foundation from 1983 until his retirement in 1986. Shortly thereafter, he
started the BB&D (Boeke, Burke & Day) tree farm near Hubbard.
Bob was active in many professional and community
organizations including Sigma Chi at ISU, the ISU Achievement Fund and ISU
Foundation Boards. He served on the Banks of Iowa Board of Directors and was
President of the Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the American
Society of Quality Control and served as President of the Center School Board in
Ottumwa. He was a President of the Rock Island and Scott Counties United Way and
a member of the Board at the Herbert Hoover Library Association. Following
retirement, he became very involved at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church in
Ames. He was active in the Rotary International and participated in the Ames-Enzan,
Japan, Sister City Program. Bob was a member of the Upper Mississippi Yacht and
Boat Club where he held the title of Commodore (in jest).
Bob was recognized for his achievements with the ISU Alumni
Recognition Medal, and he was especially proud of the Anson Marston Award from
ISU for achievement in engineering.
Bob loved his family. He was exceedingly generous and loyal.
He especially loved flying and traveling; hanging out at McGregor and on the
Mississippi itself, trolling through the backwaters, observing wildlife and
nature in general. He had a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie, daughters Lee Boeke Burke
(John) of Neenah, Wis., Linda Boeke Day (Wayne) of Des Moines, and son John
(Kim) of Ankeny. His grandchildren include Elizabeth Boeke of Bloomington, Ill.
Michael and Stephanie Boeke Day of Des Moines, Erin and Kelsey Boeke Burke in
Minneapolis, soon to be Austin, Tex., and San Francisco, respectively.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth
Boeke, his sisters Ernestine Wiechman and Mary Michaelson, and an infant
brother, along with his infant daughter Beth.
Audrey A. Whipka
Audrey E. Whipka, 85, of Davenport,
Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday, June 20, 2008 at her home, surrounded by
her family. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, June 24th at
St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport. Entombment will be in
Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa.
The former Audrey E. McGowen was born October 29, 1922 in
Marquette, Iowa, the daughter of William and Bell Singelton McGowen. She
married Melvin A. Whipka on February 18, 1961. She retired from Oscar Mayer
after 27 years, where she was a Union Steward. After leaving Oscar Mayer, she
became a Shaklee supervisor and had her business in her home for 28 years.
Because of her seminars and lectures with Shaklee, she was awarded an honorary
degree from Coe College, Cedar Rapids.
She was a very active member of St. Anthony’s Church,
Davenport, and would deliver meals and Holy Communion to the elderly. She was
also the president of the Catholic Women’s League (Daughters of Isabella).
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Melvin;
daughters, Nancy (Bill) Bolton of Marquette, Iowa and Lori Martinaz of
Davenport; sons, William (Judy) Sawvell and Jerry Sawvell, both of Alabama; nine
beloved grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her parents, six sisters, five brothers, and two grandsons, David Bolton and
Troy Sawvell.

Hamann
Edward A. Hamann, Jr., 65,
of Marquette, Iowa, died Wednesday May 21, 2008, at Franciscan-Skemp Health care
in La Crosse, Wis., following a long illness.
Funeral services were held Sunday May 25, 2008, at First
Lutheran Church rural McGregor, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor
at a later date.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Marquette, Iowa;
daughter Tammy (Loral) Hare of Prairie du Chien, Wis., son Brian (April) Hamann
of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, five grandchildren: Matthew and Caitlin Hare, Justin,
Adam, Jarrett Hamann, one great granddaughter Lily Howe; one brother Robert
Hamann of Marquette, Iowa, two sisters, Carolyn Weipert and Gloria Bird both of
Prairie du Chien, Wis.
` He was preceded in death by an infant son Jeffrey and his
parents.Edward was born November 3, 1942, in Elkader, Iowa to Edward and Juniver
(Bruehahn) Hamann. He attended school at Mar Mac. He married Marilyn Strnad on
October 26, 1963, at St. Gabriel Church in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Edward drove
truck for Prairie Sand & Gravel for 32 years. Edward was an avid duck hunter and
also enjoyed fishing and any outdoors activities. He especially enjoyed spending
time with his grandchildren and taught them how to hunt.
Isabel Moses
Isabel Margaret Ferguson
Moses, 82, Monona, Iowa, died Sunday, May 04, 2008, at Winneshiek Medical
Center, Decorah, Iowa, following a brief illness. Isabel was born on November
10, 1925, McGregor, Iowa, to Robert and Fanny (Demo) Ferguson. She graduated
from Marquette High School in 1943. Isabel also graduated from Elkader Junior
College in 1945, where she obtained her teachers certificate. She taught
Elementary Education for a number of years in the area.
Isabel was united in
marriage to William A. Moses on April 17, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. Five children were born to this union. Isabel and William purchased
their first farm in 1948 where they raised their children. In 1976, Isabel and
William moved off the farm. Isabel then pursued and earned her Home Health Aid
Certificate and worked as a Home Health Aid until 1990. In 1994, she received
the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for Project Head Start. She enjoyed
traveling, gardening, playing bingo and weaving. Isabel was a loving wife and a
wonderful mother to five children, seventeen grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her
husband of sixty-two years, William; four children, Joanne Moses Lewis,
Chesapeake, Va., Robert (Sheryl) Moses, Monona, Thomas (Karen) Moses, Monona,
Byron (Brenda) Moses, Monona; daughter-in-law, Amy Moses, Luana; sixteen
grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Isabel was preceded in death by
her parents; one son, Bruce Moses; two sisters, Edith Miller and Ruth Moreland;
one brother, Harley Ferguson and one granddaughter, Jessie Moses.
Following the burial,
everyone is invited back to the church for dinner and fellowship. Funeral
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 11:00 am at Living Faith
United Methodist Parish, Monona. The Rev. Dennis Gilbert will officiate.
Burial will follow in the
Monona City Cemetery, Monona.

Marion I. Haltom
Marion I. Haltom, 89, of McGregor, Iowa, died Friday April
18, 2008, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa, following a short
illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 21, 2008, at St.
Mary Catholic Church with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, both in McGregor.
She is survived by a daughter Sandy (Frank) McMillin of
McGregor; two granddaughters„Rebecca (the late Brent) Hackett of Harpers Ferry,
Iowa, Sarah (Jim) Whitney of Marquette, Iowa; her great grandchildren Brittney,
Danielle, Regan and Haley Hackett, Riley and Aedan Whitney, three
step-great-grandchildren Daryl, Corey and Brad Whitney, niece Shirley Beckel of
Rochester, Minn., and her great nieces and nephews, all who had a special place
in her heart.
Marion was born August 30, 1918, in McGregor, Iowa, to Adam
and Helena (Miller) Davies. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1936. She
worked at the Ben Franklin in McGregor, later moved to Dubuque, Iowa, and then
Iowa Falls. She married Lee Haltom on August 19, 1954. They moved to Marquette,
Iowa, and purchased the Burke Hotel and Cafe, which they operated until LeeÍs
retirement. Marion was the lunch room supervisor at McGregor School for many
years. She later went to work at the Marquette Cafe where she worked for several
years.
Marion was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, active in
the Guild, Catholic Daughters, American Legion Auxiliary in Marquette and
belonged to card and coffee groups. She loved her family, grandchildren, and her
many friends.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, two
sisters, one brother, and a grandson in law Brent Hackett.
