Shirley Minchk
1945 - 2008
Shirley Ann (Johnson) Minchk 62, of Monona passed away peacefully at her home with her husband on Friday April 25, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Shirley was born in Prairie du Chien, to Kilbourne (KC) and Dorothy (Liz) Johnson in 1945 and was a graduate of Prairie du Chien High School in 1963. Shirley worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison for fifteen years and became known as Switchboard Shirley to her many friends and staff. In 2003 she went to work for Dean Healthcare until her declining health forced her to retire in early 2008. Shirley was an avid collector of nostalgia and loved reading a good book and watching a good movie. Shirley was the organizer of many family gatherings and her absence as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend will be dearly missed.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Johnson, who died April 8, 1999.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas, of 43 years, and sons Mark (Jacqui) Minchk of Deforest, Scott Minchk of Austin, Texas, and Chris (Erin) Minchk of Muskego; grandchildren Simon, Leah, and Addison Minchk; sisters Lynda (Mike) Schwanz of Verona, Jacqueline (Rick) Dean of Equality, Ala.; brothers, Terry (Chien) Johnson of California City, Calif. and John Johnson of Madison and special friends Anne Knopp of Sun Prairie and Lynn Johnson of Madison.
A memorial service will be held at the Midvale Baptist Church located at 821 S. Midvale Blvd, Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. with a lunch for guests to follow.
In lieu of flowers or gifts the family wishes to collect a memorial, in honor of Shirley for Hospice Care, Inc of Fitchburg. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Dean Healthcare and Hospice Care, Inc. of Fitchburg.

DOROTHY ANN BECWAR
Sept 12, 1916-May 1, 2008
Dorothy A. Becwar 91 of Prairie du Chien, WI died Thursday May 1, 2008 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien, WI.
Following her wishes there will be private family graveside services at Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. There will be no visitation or public funeral.
She is survived by four children: Robert (Lois) Becwar of Racine, WI, Evelyn Becwar of Boscobel, WI, Paul (Joyce) Becwar of Lynxville, WI, Dale (Carol) Becwar of Cedar Rapids, IA, 10 grandchildren,many great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was born September 12, 1916 in Prairie du Chien, WI to Robert and Mary (Foran) Fritsche. She married Charles Becwar, they later divorced. Dorothy worked at Prairie Health Care Center for many years in the laundry department. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. Her main passion was quilting, which she enjoyed for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Edward Fritsche and one sister Agnes Becwar.
The Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family.

June Tyler
Jan. 23, 1927 - April 27, 2008
June A. Tyler, age 81, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Apr. 27, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Milwaukee, daughter of Walter and Hyacinth (Arthur) Meka. She married Muriel (Toby) Tyler on May 20, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2002. She was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien and enjoyed traveling after her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter Joyce (Bob) Watson; three brothers, Walter Meka Jr., Norman (Susan) Meka and Eugene Meka; two sisters, Diane (Don) Gallert and Patricia Manaffy; two grandsons, Lyle (Kim) Blum and Eric (Donna) Blum; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kasandra, Annabella, Nick, Jake, Josie, Autumn and Jolena along with a dear friend and neighbor Marilyn Ocenosak. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Shirley Meka and a grandson Stacy.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. James Warosh S.J. officiating, with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Katherine Wilkinson
March 17, 1949 - April 24, 2008
Katherine "Kitty" Wilkinson passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, at her home in Prairie du Chien. She was born on March 17, 1949, the eleventh of 13 children of Harmon and Sarah Bunts. She was proud of being born and raised on the family farm in Woodman township.
Katherine married Lavon "Sonny" Wilkinson on Aug. 17, 1968, at the Millville Methodist Church in Millville. Kitty worked for Lori Knapp Inc. for 25 years prior to being forced to retire due to illness. Kitty's clients were more like her own family instead of her job. She showed many times that their needs came before her own. Kitty loved to watch the migrating birds and always had her binoculars and phone handy to report her latest sightings. Her other great loves were crafting and wildflowers.
Katherine is survived by her husband Sonny, her daughters Kathleen (John Lane) and Beth (John Hying); granddaughter Ashley; grand sons Michael, Chris, Kyle and John Jr. all of Prairie du Chien; brothers Henry Bunts of Beloit, Bill (Sherry) Bunts and John (Pam) Bunts of Woodman; sisters Georgia Wepking of Prairie du Chien, Caroline Wood of Verona, and Gloria (Bob) Jappert of Janesville. Kitty is also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was April 28, 2008 1 pm at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien. Rev. Lynn Schreck officiated. Private family interment will be at a later date. Garrity Funeral Home handled arrangements, garrityfuneralhom.com.

Ida Baade
Nov. 11, 1914 - April 19, 2008
Ida Ann (Zieman) Baade was born November 11, 1914, in Clayton County, near Luana, IA, to Vern Zieman and Emma (Krambeer) Zieman. She was called to her Heavenly Father's home on Saturday, April 19, 2008, while a resident of Prairie Maison Care Center in Prairie du Chien. She attained the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 8 days.
Ida was baptized November 12, 1914, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, by Pastor Westenberger, and confirmed April 13, 1930, by Reverend H.P. Kumpf. She received her education at Luana Consolidated School, graduating in May of 1932. Ida was united in marriage to Lawrence Herman Baade on October 12, 1935, in Luana. To this union, one daughter was born, Jean Ann. While they farmed in the Luana area, Ida boarded school teachers in their home for several years, and enjoyed cooking for them and developed many friendships.
When Ida and Lawrence retired to Monona in 1979, they transferred their church membership from St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. Ida was a member of the choir in both churches and enjoyed singing for many years. She was also an active member of the women of the church, enjoying the companionship of her church sisters.
Ida loved sharing good times with family and friends. She especially enjoyed holidays with family. She loved sending cards and letters to family members and friends and keeping in touch by telephone. In 2000, Ida moved from her home in Monona to Walter Schmidt Assisted Living (where she lived) until transferring to Prairie Maison in 2006.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Emma Zieman; her husband, Lawrence, who died in 1987; a sister, Phyllis Zieman Chiappe; two brothers, Curtis Zieman and Kermit Zieman; and her sister-in-law, Marie Zieman.
Surviving is her daughter, Jean Ann Grafenberg, Branson, MO: two grandchildren, Matthew (Gina) Grafenberg, Fayetteville, NC and Megan (Darren) Williams, Two Harbors, MN; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Maggie Grafenberg; her brother-in-law, Raymond Chiappe, Winnetka, IL; six nieces, Sharon (John) Forssman, Diane (Frank) Sudol, Cynthia (Harvey) Block, Kathy (Glen) Meisner, Robin (Doug) Bernhard, Susan (Dave) Schwarz and one nephew, Robert (Jody) Chiappe.
Friends may call 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona with Pastor Christopher Staley officiating, with music by Judy Walter, Organist. Burial will be St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Luana.

Lois Wetmore
Aug. 23, 1908 - April 18, 2008
4Lois Virginia Wetmore (nee George), age 99, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, April 18 at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab in Dodgeville.
Lois, born August 23, 1908, was the daughter of the late Roy C. and Mary A. George and wife of the late Leonard E. Wetmore. Mrs. Wetmore and her husband grew up in Prairie du Chien and surrounding communities. Earlier in their marriage they moved to Mountain Lake, MN where they were owners and publishers of the Mountain Lake Observer. In the early 50's they relocated their family to Des Moines, IA where they published the South Des Moines Messenger-News. Later, Lois worked as a proofreader for Wallace-Homestead Publishing in Des Moines. It was this enjoyment of reading that kept her mind keen, informed and armed with definite opinions. She had been known to do what she knew best: voice those opinions in a newspaper. She was an occasional contributor to the editorial page of the Courier Press when she later returned to her hometown of Prairie du Chien. Mrs. Wetmore lived in Prairie for another 27 years before being moved to Dodgeville. While in Prairie she was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Maribeth (Wetmore) Schwarck; and also was preceded by two sons-in-law, F. Jerry Schwarck and John H. Bauer also, a grandson, William H. Bauer and her sister, Bernice (George) Granzow Meighn. Lois is survived by one daughter, Linda J. Bauer of Sugar Grove, IL; three granddaughters: Ryan E. Bauer of Charlottesville, VA; Jerilyn (Pete) Booth of Sussex; and Michele (Erich) Frueh of Ankeny, IA.; and two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Aeryn Booth. Surviving also are siblings, Mrs. Elizabeth (the late Stuart) Asche and Roy L. (the late Geraldine) George both of Prairie du Chien and Mrs. Nina (Louis) Specht of Ocala, FL, also numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, with Rev. Paul Graham officiating. Interment will be Thursday, April 24, 2008, in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Mary Specht
Mary J. Specht, age 84, of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 20, 2008, after a brief illness."
A Memorial service will be Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Interment will be at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. Esther Pitzer
Sept. 6, 1911 - April 12, 2008
Esther G. Pitzer, age 96, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor.
She was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Brownsville, MN, daughter of David and Violet (Darling) Tippery. She married Joseph Pitzer on Aug. 26, 1929, in Oelwin, IA. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1995. Esther loved gardening and fishing. She especially enjoyed providing ice cream for visiting children from the neighborhood. She is survived by three daughters, Joan Sheckler and Faye (Frank) Tesar both of Prairie du Chien and Helen Wilterdink of West Bend; two sons, Leonard (Margaret) Pitzer of Youngstown, OH and James (Yvonne) Pitzer of Prairie du Chien; a sister Viola Tesar of Prairie du Chien, 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Joseph; two daughters, Charlotte Mae and Esther Biederman; six brothers, Morgan, Virgil, LeRoy, Herschel, Bo, and David Tippery; two infant sisters; a grandson Terry Sheckler and a great-grandson Tanner Heisel.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Stuart Allen officiating, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. LaVona B. Strand, 82, of Lynxville, died Friday April 4, 2008, at her home following a short illness.
LaVona Bernice was born January 28, 1926, in Lincoln, NE to Charles and Jeanette (Davidson) Hamilton. She graduated from Seneca High School in 1945. She married Edward Strand on April 23, 1949. They lived in Ferryville for a time before moving to Lynxville where they have lived the past 50 years. She worked for National Dec in Prairie du Chien and also for McGregor Electronics in McGregor, IA.
She is survived by her husband, Edward, Sr. of Lynxville; three children: Edward C. (Carol) Strand, Jr. of Lynxville, Carol (Cliff) Tollefson of Seneca, Joesph Strand of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Craig (Pam) Tollefson of Prairie du Chien, Chad (Stephanie) Tollefson of Bangor, Curt Tollefson of Seneca , Amanda (Ryan) Buckles of Stoddard, Erin (Kirk) Konicheck of Richland Center, Sara (Derrick) Boxrucker of Prairie du Chien, Edward D. Strand of La Crosse; seven great-grandchildren, Tucker, Elaina, Carter, Madyson, Emma, McKenzie, and Regan; two sisters, Juanita Vanderbilt, and Mavis (Bill) Vanderbilt both of Prairie du Chien; brother-in-law Gordon Strand of De Soto; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
LaVona was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Blanch (Klinger) Dumprope; two sisters-in-law Christie Quamme, Charlotte Strand; four brothers-in-law, Richard (Dick) Vanderbilt, Howard Klinger, Willie Dumprope, and Milfred Quamme.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday April 8, 2008, at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, with Pastor Lynn Schreck officiating. Burial will be in Dickson Cemetery, Lynxville. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

ALICE JONES
May 24, 1928 - April 5, 2008
Alice I. Jones, 79, of Paradise Valley, AZ formally of Prairie du Chien, was called home to be in the loving arms of Christ Jesus on Saturday April 5, 2008, after a short courageous battle with cancer in Scottsdale, AZ.
Alice was born May 24, 1928 in Midland, SD to Joseph and Cleone (Wachter) Eckert. She worked for the 3-M Company in Prairie du Chien, and retired from there after more than 25 years of service. Alice moved to Paradise Valley, AZ eight years ago to live with her daughter Sheila and her family.
She is survived by her children: Douglas Jones of Paradise Valley, AZ, Patti (Jim) Petersen of Spokane, WA, Sheila (Russ) Johnson of Paradise Valley, AZ; four grandchildren; Tracy Jones, Alicia Jones, Andrew Petersen, and Haley Johnson; one great grandchild Wyatt Jones Baker; all who will miss her and loved her dearly. Also surviving are six siblings: Robert Eckert and Joseph Eckert both of Mt. Hope, Betty (Donald) Wetter of Boscobel, Mary (John) Bremmer of Mt. Hope, Bonnie (Tom) Reynolds of Hartland, VT, and Chuck (Nancy) Eckert of Woodman, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday April 12, 2008, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and one hour prior to services at the church.

Diane Swatek
July 7, 1945 - March 28, 2008
Diane Swatek, age 62, of Nekoosa, died Friday March 28, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield.
Diane was born July 7, 1945, in Prairie du Chein to Lawrence and Eileen (Price) Doll. She graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1963 and from beauty school in Madison in 1964. She married Willard Swatek on June 11, 1966 in Wauzeka. He died in 1993. She was employed at Cut & Curl and A Cut Above Beauty Shops in Prairie du Chein. She and Willard moved to Nekoosa in 1986 and she was employed at the Wisconsin Rapids Wal Mart until her retirement in 2006.
Diane was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend. She enjoyed life and traveled extensively with friends and family. In fact anyone who met her was considered a friend. Her home was always open to anyone. She enjoyed her family and was the 'funniest' grandma in the world. She enjoyed her retirement and was involved in several card clubs, trips to the casino and late night Scrabble games.
She is survived by four children, Scott (Tiffany) of McFarland, Deb (Hank) Mugridge of Wisconsin Rapids, Mark of Port Edwards, Craig (Paula) of Wisconsin Rapids; six grandchildren Ashley and Marty Swatek, Brandon and Kaitlyn Mugridge, Meghan and Jayme Swatek; two brothers Greg (Jolene) Doll of Des Moines, IA, Bill Doll of Davenport, IA, two sisters Donna (Dick) Foley of Cedar Rapids, Judy (Ted) Malget of Oelwein, IA, and her 'other sister' Mary Bass of Fennimore, She is further survived by many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and special friends including the Wauzeka High School Class of 1963.
Diane was preceded in death by her husband Willie, parents, one brother Jack Doll and in laws Wencil and Leona Swatek.
A visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, Crawford County. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.

Elsie Johnson
March 17, 1912 - March 29, 2008
Elsie Eddings Johnson, age 96 passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, IA after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born March 17, 1912, at home on Pleasant Ridge in rural McGregor, IA the daughter of John and Amanda (Denning) Knapp. She attended the Mendon No. 1 Country School. She married Lloyd Eddings in August of 1931. Two daughters were born to this union. She lived most of her married life in Marquette, IA. She worked at the Button Factory in McGregor until she and her husband formed Eddings Archery Company. She worked there until her husband's tragic death in 1961. Elsie moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where she worked at Collins Radio. She married Amos Johnson in 1966. They retired to Prairie du Chien, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Church until her illness. Elsie has been a resident of the Great River Care Center for the past twelve years.
She is survived by a daughter Arla (Ray) Powers of McGregor; three granddaughters, Gerri (Tom) Franz of Cedar Rapids, IA, Julie Flanders of Madison, and Jenny (Len) Pritchett of Bloomington; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a stepson Ronald (Charlotte) Johnson; a step-grandson and two step-granddaughters and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter Geraldine, two sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, Rev. Esther Aspenson
July 23, 1953 - March 27, 2008
Esther M. Aspenson, age 72, of Viroqua, passed into God's loving arms on Thursday evening, March 27, 2008 at her home with her family by her side following a dignified battle with cancer.
Esther was born in Kickapoo Township in Vernon County on July 23, 1953, to Mabel (Swiggum) and Gerhard Sherry. She graduated from Readstown High School in 1953. She was a life-long resident of Wisconsin and a very active and admired member of her community. Esther married the love of her life, Virgil Aspenson on July 24, 1954. They were successful business owners in Viroqua for many years. Esther also served as the Town Clerk for the Town of Utica and was appointed to the State Real Estate Board by former Governor Tony Earl. She had been a dedicated member of the Utica Lutheran Church as well as serving on several committees. She was well-known for her lefse, the best this side of Norway, which was always a hit at the annual Lutefisk & Lefse dinner. Esther was also a charter member and past President of Viroqua Eagles Aerie No. 2707 Ladies Auxiliary.
Esther is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Karen) Aspenson of Menasha and Kris (Karen) Aspenson of Ferryville. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jamie, Eric and Sara Aspenson, Kris II and Katerina Aspenson, Brian and Arthur Rhodes, and Luis Aspenson, and one great-granddaughter, Rosary Aspenson. Esther will be greatly missed by her siblings, Kathleen Ranallo of Mequon, Adrian Sherry of Onalaska, Margaret (Keith) Larson of Readstown, Louis (John) Sime of Burlington, Lucille Erickson of Menahga, MN., Pete (Annette) Sherry of Onalaska and Thomas Sherry (Margie Millis) of Readstown, and in-laws, Orville (Bernie) Aspenson of Holmen, Konnie (Alvin) Kvigne of Mt. Sterling, and Raymond (Ann) Aspenson of Onalaska, as well as many special nephews, nieces, and many friends. Esther is further survived by a very special friend, Don Erickson with whom she spent the last several years in great companionship. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude and affection to Don who provided her with loving care and assisted her in living out her personal credo: 'Live, love, laugh and be happy!'
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil on February 6, 1997, two brothers-in-law, Joseph Ranallo and Kenneth Erickson, one sister-in-law, Sally Sherry, and two nieces, Cheryl (Ranallo) Mirgai and Kristi (Sherry) Kolb.
Special thanks from the family to the staff of the Vernon Memorial Hospital Hospice Program, especially Barb Robson and Angie Isbell whose tender loving care was greatly appreciated.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home in Viroqua where a prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. led by Pastor Steven Fossum. RUDOLF LONG
Rudolf E. "Rudy" Long, age 53, of Glen Haven died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his home. He was born on April 7, 1954, in Germany, and was an only child of Rudolph A. and Helma K. (Jantzen) Long. He graduated from high school in Granby, MA and married Donna Ertel on December 18, 1978. He was a retired major in the U.S. Army. Over the years, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Ft. Meade, Maryland; Ft. Devens, Massachusetts; and Seaford, Delaware. Rudy was currently employed as a lean manufacturing engineer at MPC in Prairie du Chien. He loved to play drums, ride his Harley, ride ATVs, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Long, Glen Haven; a son, Matthew (Jennifer) Long, Cascade, IA; his mother-in-law, Ruth Ertel, Prairie du Chien; sisters-in-law, Diane (Bryon) Meyer, Verona; Joyce Mumm, Beetown; and Teresa (Kurt) Jaynes, Prairie du Chien; aunts and uncles: Guy Long and Monica McCarthy, both of Hartford, CT; and Clairette Meagher, Mooers Forks, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan, who was killed in action in Iraq on April 3, 2003; both parents; his father-in-law, Patrick B. Ertel; and brother-in-law, Joseph B. Ertel.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glen Haven with Father Jim Warosh officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m until the time of services at the church. FAYE MOORE
A lifelong resident of Prairie du Chien, Faye M. Moore age 86 passed away Mon., March 17, 2008 at the Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier in the week. She was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Prairie du Chien daughter of George and Emily (Bauer) McClure. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Moore. She is survived by 2 sons; Elliott (Sau) Moore of Montreal, Canada and Greg (Barbara) Moore of Batavia, IL, 2 daughters; Sara Moore of Menomonie, MI and Emily Moore of Lanesboro, MN, a sister Dale (Rusty) Boldt of Prairie du Chien, 3 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

EDITH LONG
Edith E. Long, age 98, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Bagley, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien.  She was born June 12, 1909 in Patch Grove Township, WI, the daughter of Frank and Elta (Pendleton) Ellis.  Edith graduated from Patch Grove High School.  On January 17, 1927, she married William Long in Dubuque, IA.  He preceded her in death on July 2, 1951.  Edith served as the treasurer for the Town of Wyalusing for 22 years.  She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and watching hummingbirds.  Edith was a wonderful mother and "great" grandmother and dearly loved her family.  Everyone enjoyed Sunday dinners at Grandma's. 
She is survived by four children:  Donna (Richard) Kaufman, Prairie du Chien; Dorothy Lester, Dubuque, IA; James Long, Bagley; and John (Carol) Long, Potosi; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Florence Kozelka, Prairie du Chien; a daughter-in-law, Madonna Long, Prairie du Chien; a son-in-law, Charles Enke, Prairie du Chien; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Long; two daughters:  Irene Enke and Darlene Long; five brothers:  Burr, Herbert, Donald, Clifford, and Oscar Ellis; and her sister, Frances Pankoff.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating.  Burial will be in Union Nagle Cemetery, Patch Grove Township.  Friends may call on Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Norma Slama
Nov. 3, 1916 - March 10, 2008
Norma C. Slama, 91, of Eastman passed away Monday, March 10, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 3, 1916, in Eastman, daughter of Albert and Mary (Kavon) Kussmaul.
She married John Slama on August 29, 1940, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Eastman. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1991. Together they owned and operated Slama's Bar in Eastman for nearly 50 years.
She was an active member of St. Wenceslaus Parish and the Tavern League. She enjoyed playing pool, bowling and traveling.
She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Alvin Kussmaul and two sisters, Rose Slama and Midge Bushnell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, Rev. Thomas Huff officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. Veronica 'Ronnie' Scullin, age 63, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her home.
She was born July 25, 1944, in Pittsville, daughter of Clarence and Sylvia (Blossfield) Peters.
She is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Steve) Frontz of Bowling Green, KY, a son Shawn (Carly Sterne) Scullin of Marshal, NC; seven brothers, Fred Dye, Herbert Peters, LeRoy (Betty) Peters, Keith Peters, Dennis (Ann) Peters, Gene Peters and Jerry Peters; four sisters, Mrs. Roger Adeline Poteat, Mrs. Kenneth LaVonne Wachal, Mrs. Michael Mary Burt and Mrs. Michael JoAnn Whalen Jr.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dolores A. Downing, 79, of Prairie du Chien, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, following a short illness.
Dolores was born December 23, 1928, in Prairie du Chien, to Lester and Mildred (Wisdom) Daugherty. She graduated from Prairie High School. She married Nelson Larson, Jr in 1948, he died in 1954. She later married Paul Downing in Rockford, IL. They lived in Davis, IL for a time before moving back to Prairie du Chien.æ In the late 1980's Dolores owned and operated a catering business, The Upper Crust in Monroe, Louisiana for ten years, before returning to Prairie du Chien. She had been a resident of Great River Care Center for the past two years. She was preceded in death by parents, husband Nelson, son Michael, infant son, and a brother Jack Daugherty.
She is survived by two daughters, Terri (Marv) Cunningham of Monroe, Louisiana, Jo Anne (Jeff) Dangel of Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Raymond (Catherine) Daugherty of Jefferson City, Tenn, Donavan (Mable) Daugherty of Pensacola, Florida, Ruth (Dave) Todd of Prairie du Chien, Dianne (Ken) Withey of Lynxville; sister-in-law Beth Daugherty of Boscobel.

Harvey Klinger
Jan. 112, 1928 - March 12, 2008
Harvey L. Klinger, age 80, of Ferryville, passed away March 12, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp in La Crosse.
Harvey was born in Ferryville on January 12, 1928, to George and Alma (Lee) Klinger.æ He married Kathryn Stoehr on November 24, 1951, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Harvey was a lifelong resident of Ferryville. Harvey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded a purple heart. He started working in the Ferryville State Bank in 1946, and after 43 years of service, he retired in 1989.æ He served his community for many years as an active member of the Village Board, the Booster Club and the Ferryville Cemetery Association. He enjoyed the great outdoors especially fishing, bird watching and gardening. He had great love for his grandpuppy, Buffy. More than his love of nature was that for his family. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathryn Klinger of Ferryville; four children, Debra (Gerald) Gunter of Independence, MO, Glenn Klinger of Maumee, OH, Cheryl Otto of La Crosse, Kathy Mansfield of La Crosse, four grandchildren, Joshua Parr, Charlotte Mansfield, David Otto, Matthew Otto; four great-grandchildren, Talib, Eve, Alexis and Jonathon. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and George W. Klinger, and two brothers; Howard and James.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing, Iowa. Pastor Libby Howe officiated. Burial was in Ferryville Cemetery in Ferryville, where military rites were accorded.

Raymond Rider, 95, of Prairie du Chien, died Wednesday, March 05, 2008, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien.
Funeral Services were held Saturday at the Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien with Pastor Paul Graham officiating. Burial was in the Wauzeka Cemetery.
Raymond was born in Wauzeka, on July 22, 1912, to Elwin and Emma (Zeeh) Rider. He and his brother Leonard farmed together in the Wauzeka area until he retired and moved to Prairie du Chien.
He enjoyed talking about farming and helping his neighbors.
Survived by a sister, Hazel Mayne of Prairie du Chien; a brother, Ora Rider of Wauzeka; and a sister-in-law, Lorna Rider of Prairie du Sac. Raymond was preceded in death by seven siblings, Florence Oswald, Clara Nagel, Roy, Earl, Edwin, LaVerne and Leonard Rider. Memorials may be designated to the Heart Fund.

DR. VERNE EPLEY
July 22, 1914 - March 5, 2008
Dr. Verne C. Epley, 93, of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City.
He was born July 22, 1914, in LaPorte City, Iowa, son of Clarence and Valtina (Carbaugh) Epley.
He married June Radke on June 12, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2005. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Medical School and later practiced medicine in Prairie du Chien from 1944, until his retirement in 1980.
Verne was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed trout fishing. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien. He belonged to Prairie du Chien Country Club, the Prairie Rod and Gun Club and the Optimist's Club. He is survived by three sons, Richard (Cindy) of Sauk City, Robert (Sue) of Norcross, Georgia and Stephen (Cheryl) of Red Bluff, Calif.; eight grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister Violet Epley.
Funeral services were Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Rev. Stuart Allen officiating, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Kenneth R. Novey, 78, 125 School Street, Marion IA, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Linn Manor Care Center following a brief illness.
Kenneth was born August 2, 1929, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Henry and Marie (Zacharis) Novey. He was married on October 29, 1955, in Chicago, Ill., to Bernice G. Bonney. Kenneth was a lab technician for Rockwell Collins for 19 years and also for Square D for 24 years. For more than 35 years, his hobby was locksmithing. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Iowa Locksmith's Association, Associated Locksmith's of America and the Marion American Legion Post #298. Kenneth also delivered meals for Meals-on-Wheels for ten years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
|Surviving in addition to his wife Bernice are a daughter, Donna Marie Novey of Shoreview, MN; a son, Richard Glenn Novey (Sally) of Valley Center, CA; and a brother, Raymond Novey of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

FRANCIS SCHMIDT
Francis M. "Frank" Schmidt, age 64, of Bloomington, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  He was born at home on January 15, 1944, the son of Martin and Alice (Bausch) Schmidt.  Frank graduated from Bloomington High School and farmed until 1994.  He started his own agricultural sales business, Francis Schmidt Sales.  Frank also served in the U.S. Army National Guard Company C, 2D Battalion 1st Engineer Brigade of Prairie du Chien for 10 years.  He was an avid reader and was able to fix anything.  Frank liked to discuss politics, had a wonderful sense of humor, liked his dogs and horses, and enjoyed spending his time with family.
He is survived by five brothers and two sisters:  Roger Schmidt (Debbie), Pleasant Hill, MO; Judy (Terry) Stewart, Dubuque, IA; Wayne Schmidt, Palm Court, FL; Gary (Deb) Schmidt, Mount Hope; Ron (Deanne) Schmidt, Potosi; Chris McMahan, Cuba City; and Mark (Ellie) Schmidt, Bloomington; 15 nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his very dear friend and former wife, Louise Schmidt, Barneveld.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Robert and Christine Schmidt and Fred and Odelia Bausch; his brother, Donald, in 1942; and his great-niece, Sydney Little.

Thomas Keppler
Jan. 6, 1945 - Feb. 28, 2008
Thomas R. Keppler, 63, of Strawberry Point, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, of a heart attack at his home.
Tom was born on January 6, 1945, in Manchester, IA to Ray and Olive Keppler of rural Strawberry Point. Tom attended Lodomillo Township Country School east of Strawberry Point in his childhood and Strawberry Point public school, graduating in 1963, He entered the Army after high school, was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War era, and worked in administration. After completing his tour of duty he returned home to farm with his Dad and his brothers, Danny and Bobby.
He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Cunningham on August 29, 1970, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. His Uncle, Fr. Dan Keppler officiated at the double wedding with his sister Mary and her husband Tom Weber. Five children were born to this union. Mary Jane Keppler attended St. Gabriels School in the 1950 s in Prairie du Chien.
In recent years he worked for Wessel's Electric of Strawberry Point as an electrician assistant. He loved his family. He loved his children and grandchildren, often taking them for hikes in the woods, looking for arrowheads in the field behind the farmhouse, teasing the little ones, and drawing cartoon pictures for them. He enjoyed woodcarving, being outdoors, and taking walks by the pond among the hundreds of trees he planted. He dearly loved being a grandfather. He loved to work hard. He was a quiet man with a big heart and a sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh. It was his joy.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane and their family: Killary (Jim) Meade and children, Jacob, Jonathan, Isaac and Katie; Caine and his children Erin and Lane; Garrett; Olivia ( Tony) Harford and children Maddie and Lydia; and Levi, a junior at Starmont High School. They all live in the Strawberry Point area. Survivors also include his brothers, Bobby (Diane); Chuck (Ruth); Danny (Nancy); Mark (Betty); and Terry. His sisters, Shirley Cisna, Janet (Tom) Thompson, Mary (Tom) Weber, his nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends. He is also survived by his step-sisters; Shirley Cunningham of Glendale, AZ, Betty Sands of Bettendorf, IA and step-brother, Jim Cunningham of Mesa, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ray and Olive Keppler, his step-mother Anita, his brother LaVerne and his wife Jayne, his nephew Cory Weber, and his great-niece Andrea Bockenstedt.

REV BENJAMIN GOVIER
Rev. Benjamin C. Govier, age 47, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, after a long, courageous battle with ALS.  He was born on June 29, 1960, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Vernon and Geraldine (Olson) Govier.  Ben graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1978.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in music from Oral Roberts University in 1982.  Ben pastored the Grant County Christian Center for nearly twenty years while also substitute teaching for the Lancaster School District.  He was an avid reader and historian, spending countless hours seeking his family's roots and genealogy.  Ben also enjoyed running, weightlifting, and tennis.  He spoke French fluently and enjoyed traveling, especially his trip to London with his children.  Ben served the Lord with all his might and derived an extreme amount of enjoyment from preaching and teaching God's word.
Survivors include his children: Amanda, Andrea, and Nathaniel Govier, all of Lancaster; their mother, Sherry Govier, Lancaster; his mother, Geraldine Govier, Lancaster; one Grandson, Aiden, Lancaster; six brothers: Jim (Peggy) Govier, Madison; Gordon (Anne) Govier, Monona; Keith (Georgia) Govier, Wyalusing; Galen Govier, Prairie du Chien; Richard (Susie) Govier, Reedsburg; Bill (Lisa) Govier, Darlington; two half sisters: JoAnne (George) Sprenger, Las Vegas, NM; Marianne (David) Carrier, Pittsburg, PA; 18 nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
 He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon and a sister-in-law, Debra Govier.

Kaye M. Meyers, age 69, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Bloomington passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the Heartland Post Acute Rehab Center in Platteville.
She was born Jan. 29, 1939, in Lynxville, daughter of Theodore and Edna (Steiner) Vanderbilt. She married LaVerne Meyers on Nov. 24, 1962, at St. Gabriels Church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on Dec 30, 2006. Kaye enjoyed bowling, bingo, the casino boat and reading. She loved family gatherings and especially time spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors.
She is survived by five sons, Larry (Lisa) of Milton, Pat of Bloomington, John (Becky) of Prairie du Chien, Darol and Rob both of Glen Haven; three daughters, Missy (Michael) Stram of Prairie du Chien, Janell (Tony) Meieer of Glen Haven and Kerry (John ) Schnitzler of Mt. Loretta Lorraine (Ahern) Stroschein, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and wife, returned to our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 3, 2008 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on November 2, 1934 in Waukegan, Illinois, and lived in Decatur, Illinois until she graduated from high school. On June 5, 1954 she was united in marriage with Francis M. Stroschein at St. Jerome Church in Chicago, Illinois. To this union they were blessed with six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Ahern and Stella L. (Serkowski) Ahern, and one brother, Lawrence P. Ahern.
Loretta was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. She and her husband resided in Antioch, Illinois for over 30 years, and then traveled extensively throughout the United States before retiring in Prairie Du Chien.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 53 years, Francis M. Stroschein; four daughters, Teresa M. Roach and her husband Edward of Bristol, Wisconsin, Pamela A. Stroschein of Marshalltown, Iowa, Kathleen M. Kelly of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Valerie A. Draud of Chatham, Virginia; two sons, CAPT Thomas M. Stroschein, U.S. Navy of Lake Jackson, Texas, and James A. Stroschein and his wife Dawn of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; one brother, Jesse J. Ahern of Tucson, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren, Brian Roach, Jennifer Roach, Christopher Roach, Jeffrey Roach, Patience Blink and her husband Shawn, Lindsay Thompson and her husband Jeff, Erin Anderson, Kristel Kelly, Katelyn Kelly, Courtney Draud, Corey Lin Draud, Chris Sorensen, and Jenna Sorensen; and five great-grandchildren, Beau Blink, Lane Bown, Landie Bown, Mason Thompson, and a baby girl to arrive in April.

ROBERT HAGENSICK
Dec. 30, 1924 - Feb. 26 - 2008
Robert J. Hagensick, 83, of Lynxville passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. He was born December 30, 1924, in Elkader, Iowa, son of Glen and Mary (Stahl) Hagensick.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. He married Betty Caya on February 22, 1947. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2001.
He worked as a commercial fisherman most of his life and owned and operated the Hagensick Fish Market in Lynxville until his retirement. He
was a member of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress for 31 years.
He is survived by a daughter Diana (Ralph) Mohn of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; four sons, Robert (Irene), Stanley (Linda), Paul (Marcia) and Donald all of Lynxville; a brother Gale of Hopkinsville, Kentckey; 13 grandchildren; three step- grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Clarence and an infant sister.
Funeral services were Friday, at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, Rev. Lynn Schreck officiating, with burial in the Dickson Ridge Cemetery in Lynxville. Military Rites were accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.

Mikeal Heisz, Sr.
March 31, 1954 - February 27, 2008
Mikeal Heisz, 53, went home to the Lord on February 27, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. He spent his final days at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born March 31, 1954, in Boscobel to Lincoln "Gene" and Harriet (Lomas) Heisz.
Mike lived his entire life in Gays Mills. He graduated from North Crawford High School in 1972.
He married Kate Ingle on May 20, 1978 at Robb Park and renewed their vows March 8, 1991 in Las Vegas. He set many records at Frank's Orchard picking apples.
His many hobbies included: hunting, raising elk, fishing, shooting pool and darts, morel hunting and visiting with family and friends over chocolate milk at the Amoco. He was an active member of the Gays Mills Fire Department (28 years), Gays Mills Village Board, and the Sportsman's Club. He volunteered for many community groups and activities. Mike took pride in helping others and throughout a lifetime of giving he touched many lives. Even while ill, he assisted all he could during the flood of 2007.
Mike and Kate were honored by the Community of Gays Mills, being named Apple Ambassador in 2007. He has worked on the family farm, at Advance Transformer, owned an orchard and operated his own business for many years. He also spent many endless hours in the tobacco field and was honored as Tobacco Grower of the Year in 1990. He is survived by his loving wife Kathi "Kate" (Ingle) Heisz, three children; Mikeal, Charles (Deambra) and Mindi: and two grandchildren, Monica and Daryen. He is also survived by his parents, Gene and Harriet Heisz; five siblings, Kathy (Bill) Statz, Ed (Sue) Heisz, Harry (Marla) Heisz, Donna (Brad) Bay and Ivan (Deb) Heisz. He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Maria Ingle; seven in-laws, Renee Ingle, Cindy (Bob) Jacobus, Steve (Kelly) Ingle, Deb (Dan) Noble, Penny Hazlett, Janita Ingle, and Georgene Ingle. Mike was a devoted uncle to twenty-four nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Janelle Jacabson, Jarred Reed, Sophia Kisolek, and many other close friends and Godchild Luke Bay. Mike was proceeded in death by his grandparents, his father-in-law, several aunts and uncles and special friends, Robin Eitsert and Ray Lacina. He will always be loved and missed by family and friends.
Visitation was Sunday at Dommersnaes-Bertram Family Funeral Home with services held Monday at 1 p.m at the Funeral Home and a luncheon following at the Gays Mills Community Building. Mike was laid to rest at the Gays Mills Cemetery.

Richard Bulawa
December 6, 1937 February 25. 2008
Richard John Bulawa, of Ettrick, died on Tuesday, February 25th, 2008, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center at the age of 70.
He was born at the Belmont Hospital in Chicago, Ill. on December 6, 1937, to Edwin and Elizabeth (La Bud) Bulawa. Richard was a kind and loving man who cared about life and everything in it. He loved animals, fishing, and the outdoors. He touched so many hearts over the years and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Richard taught science and math in Independence, Trempealeau and Wauzeka, (High School & Middle School) until 1987 when he retired and moved to North Port, Florida. He then worked at Ardaman Associates as a soil technician. In 2004 he retired and moved to Ettrick, with his wife Leone.
Richard is survived by his wife Leone, his son Ed (Sharon) of Alaska, son Bill (Julie) of Prairie du Chien, daughter Linda (Bruce) Klim of Alaska, son Paul (Sharon) of Alaska, step-son Mike (Janice) Moppin of Rhode Island, step-daughter Cindy (Terry) Mason of Blair, step-daughter Lori (Dale) Jones of Arena, step-daughter Kim Zubik of Rochester, Minn. and step-son Rich (Crystal) Moppin of Florida; a sister Jenny Sparks of Arlington Heights, Ill., fifteen  grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
As per Richards request there will not be a formal service, instead a private family gathering will be conducted at a later date. Mary Key
Mary E. Key, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.
She was born October 25, 1931, in Bloomington Township, the daughter of Harold and Hilda (Bausch) Mason. In September of 1954, she married Nicholas A. Key in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death in 1968. Mary lived a very simple life and her family was her top priority.
She is survived by six children, David (Edyie) Walther, Madison; Dennis (Cathy) Key, Madison, Rose (Mark) Key-Udelhofen, Lancaster, Patrick (Charlotte) Key, McFarland, Rhonda (Russell) Raeder, Prairie du Sac, and Mark Key, Marshall; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her brother, Jim (Marlys) Mason, Bagley; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial was in Blakes Praire Cemetery, Bloomington Township.

Elizabeth L. Franklin, age 85, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sat., Feb. 23, 2008 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1923 in Daysville, IL, daughter of Bert and Mae (Bellows) Himes.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Pat (Steve) Mercaitis of Mt. Hope, WI and Toni Lee (Dick) Spink of Corinth, MS, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; John and Robert Himes along with a sister Rue Hird.

CHRISTINE HAMMEL
Christine Hammel age 83 of McGregor IA and died Friday Feb 15, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien Wisc.  Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in McGregor with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor.  Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at the Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in McGregor.  Also at the church from 10 until time of services on Monday.
Christine was born in Mitchellville Iowa on January 31, 1925 to Lawrence and Amy Belle (Cline) Ragan.  She married Everett A.J. ŒBud' Nordhus he preceded her in death in 1972, she later married Robert S. Hammel, he preceded her in death in 2001.
Christine was past president of Interstate Savings and Loan and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary both in McGregor.  For many years she and her husband Bud helped his parents operate the Strand Theatre and Fountainette. She enjoyed her Thursday afternoon Bridge club.  She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and active in her church.  Christine spent many hours reading, watching birds and other wildlife.

Virgil M. Hefner, 77, of rural McGregor, IA, died Sunday February 24, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, following a short illness.
Virgil was born July 8, 1930, at Waukon, IA to Elmer Gerald and Florence (McNally) Hefner. He attended school in Waukon. He served in the Army. He married Kathleen McCormick on October 17, 1953, at St. Pius Church, Cherry Mound. Virgil was a lifelong farmer and cattle raiser. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., American Angus Association, the Farm Bureau, and St. Mary's Church. He was very proud of and loved his family, church, country, the land he tilled and the cattle he raised.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen; five children, Julie (Bruce) Schultz of McGregor, IA, Michael (Lori) Hefner of German Valley, IL, Bill (Julie) Hefner of Minneapolis, MN, Ron (Vicky) Hefner of McGregor, IA, Jolene (Terry) Christeleit of Volga, IA; nine grandchildren, Shawn (Tara) Schultz, Jeremy Schultz, Cassidy Hefner, Caity Hefner, Courtney Hefner, Chad Hefner, Ty Hefner, William Christeleit, Rylan Hefner, one great grandchild Noah Schultz.

TERESA TARRENCE
Teresa M. Tarrence, age 78, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sun., Feb. 24, 2008 at the Prairie Maison Care Center. She was born Feb. 14, 1930 in Patch Grove, WI, daughter of Lowell and Anna (Larkin) Tarrence. She was a graduate of St. John's Grade School and later St. Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien. She worked at the Opportunity Center in Prairie du Chien for 29 years. She was a model patient at Prairie Maison, taking part in all activities, especially crafts. She took most interest in jig saw puzzles. She is survived by a brother Ed (Diane) Tarrence of Green Bay, WI, 2 sisters; Helen Tarrence of Prairie du Chien and Delores (Richard) Schacht of West Bend, WI, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Joseph, a sister in law Rose Tarrence, a niece Amy Jo Schacht and four half brothers.

ROBERT JEIDY
Robert E. Jeidy, age 73, of Plover died Tuesday morning February 19, 2008, at the Portage County Health Care Facility with his family at his side and under the care of Ministry Hospice Care.
Robert was born August 19, 1934, in Grant County, the son of Earl and Emma (Eisenhauer) Jeidy. He married Susan Braun on March 28, 1964. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Paratroopers from 1951 - 1954. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, participating in local rodeos, spending time with friends playing cards, traveling, camping, and woodworking. The 1970's brought his greatest two joys: Trisha Leigh and Ryan Patrick. Robert loved his family, including his three grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife Susan; their children, Trisha (Scott) Moody, Nekoosa, and Ryan (Leanne) Jeidy, Stevens Point; three grandchildren, Tarren, Dakota, and Zachary; two brothers, Jack Jeidy, Wauzeka, and Grant (Jorie Hansen) Jeidy, Wind Lake; two sisters, Jean (Bill) Trumm, Blue River, and Bonnie (Thomas) Hiebel, Ballston Lake, NY. Agnes M. Roberto age 70 of Prairie du Chien passed away Tues., Feb. 19, 2008 at the Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. She was born Aug. 2, 1937 in Cincinnatti, OH, daughter of Thomas and Henrietta (Meyers) Raymond. She married Joseph Roberto on Aug. 13, 1960 in Covington, KY. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1999. She enjoyed her job as a greeter at WalMart. Lawrence L. Sheriff
Lawrence (Larry) Sheriff, 69, of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 at Southern Hills Medical Center in Las Vegas, NV after complications from several illnesses.
Larry was born April 7, 1938 in Dorchester, IA to Josephine (Damman) and Forrest Sheriff.
Larry served in the US Navy from 1955 through 1959. The majority of his military service was in the Far East.
He married Joan Slama on June 24, 1967 at St. Gabriel's Church in Prairie du Chien.
After his military service, Larry worked in bridge construction and manufacturing. In 1970 Larry and Joan opened The Sheriff's Office Bar in Campbellsport, WI. In 1974 Larry and Joan moved to Prairie du Chien where they owned and operated The Coach Supper Club until 2001 when Larry retired.
Larry enjoyed hunting, being in the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and wintering in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Larry was a member of many organizations including The Eagles Club, American Legion, Kiwanis Club, Bluff Country Long Spurs, Rocky Mountain Elk Federation, and Crawford County Tavern League.
He is preceded in death by his father Forrest Sheriff, mother Josephine Whalen, stepfather George Whalen, and brother-in-law Ed Loomis. He is survived by his wife Joan of Prairie du Chien; daughter Daureen (Sheriff) Heenan and son-in-law Scott of Neenah, WI; daughter Sarah Sheriff and fiancé Brian Ramsey of Eau Claire, WI; sister Marie Loomis of Lansing, IA; brother Greg Whalen of Kentucky, brother Ken Raphael of California; brother David Sheriff of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was a loving grandfather to Chelsey, Trent, and Christian. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Memorial services will be provided by Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien later this spring.

Leo Delury
|Leo A. Delury, age 91, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sat., Feb. 23, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 3, 1917, in son of James and Mary (LaMere) Delury. He married Rose M. Panka on July 30, 1949, at St. John's Church in Prairie du Chien. She preceded him in death on Apr. 24, 1999. Together they owned and operated the family farm.
He is survived by four sons, Thomas (Joelle) of Oregon, Paul (Peg) of Kansas City, MO, Dennis (Annie) of Coalina, AL and Michael of Seattle, WA; two daughters, Mary (Vincent Humble) Delury of Centralia, WA and Linda Delury of Seattle, WA; a sister Agnes Finnegan of Des Moines, IA, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Lloyd, George and Roy along with a sister Evelyn Pertzborn.

EMMA BOUZEK
Emma Regina White Bouzek, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
She was born to Leo and Emma (Becwar) White on September 7 , 1915, in Eastman. She was the youngest daughter among two sisters and seven brothers. The family moved to Prairie du Chien in 1927. She married Edward J. Bouzek May 10, 1933.
Her first employment was at Herpel's grocery store in Lowertown, followed by a cashier position at the Highway Market working for Marty Betzle and Bubbins Straumann. Later, she earned her high school diploma, studied shorthand and typing at St. Mary's Academy and accepted a position from the Howe family at the Courier Press as a bookkeeper, receptionist and photographers' assistant. Many years later she was employed at Campion Jesuit High School as secretary in the Admissions office and the Chicago, Minnesota, Milwaukee and Prairie du Chien Parents' Clubs. Later she acted as secretary to four presidents at the Jesuit school where she eventually earned the title of Executive Assistant to the President. After Campion closed in in 1975 she worked in the activities department and later became a bookkeeper at Prairie Health Care Center, now Prairie Maison. It is ironic that she should one day be a resident where she previously played such an important role.
Emma had many interests outside her career. She served two terms as Secretary of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at St. John's Church and was Publicity Chairman for both organizations for 23 years. She was a charter member of the Women's Civic Club, the Dingalings, the ABC Club and a member of The Christian Mothers Society, Rosary Society and Eagles Auxiliary #1502. Her free lance writing and photos appeared in various state newspapers and she was a stringer for The Times Review, Wisconsin State Journal and La Crosse Tribune. Her poetry was published in Wisconsin Poets. Her hobbies were photography, wood working, tole painting, crocheting and knitting. She also served as extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and brought communion to the homebound of St. John's until ill health prevented her from continuing. She was a volunteer teacher's aide for several years at St. John's grade school.
Emma was preceded in death by her beloved parents, brothers Frank, Leo, Henry (Hank), Joe, Leonard, Arnold (Arnie) John (Johnnie) and sisters Mary, Lillian (Peggy), her husband Edward, grandson Robert Scott and daughter-in-law, Mary. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, Robert of Ireland and Marion (Kelley) of Cranford, New Jersey; son-in-Law, Marc, granddaughters Michele, Elizabeth, Lisa, Jane (John), Shannon (Mike), Bridget (David), Tierney(Tim), great grandchildren Camille, Robertson, Claire, Emily, Alice, Hannah, Jack, Francis and Sasha, special nieces Delores (Doris), Joan, Joyce, Teresa (Heal) Theresa Becwar; many other loving nieces and nephews and a multitude of dear friends.
The funeral service will be held at St. John's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Garrity Funeral Home. The joyful mysteries of the rosary will be recited.

William "Bill" C. Hudson 81, died Saturday February 16, 2008, at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster.
He was born September 16, 1926, in Millville Township, Grant County to William B. & Nora (Russell) Hudson
Bill enjoyed working in his garden, doing yard work, along with playing the harmonica, and doing cross word puzzles. He also liked his visits with his many friends. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and "Sam" his dog.
Survivors include a nephew, George Redman, Bloomington; a few cousins of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nora Hudson, sister and brother-in-Law-Ruth and Maynard Redman.
Funeral services will be at the Bloomington United Methodist Church in Bloomington, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Rev. Karl Goodfellow officiating with burial in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Mount Hope Township Grant Co. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church. IRENE BLAZEK
Irene Ann Blazek, 98, Farmersburg, Iowa, died Monday, February 11, 2008, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa, following a long illness.
Irene was born on October 1, 1909, Wagner Township, Farmersburg, to Ernest and Christine (Drallmeier) Haltmeyer. She graduated from Farmersburg High School in 1926. Irene attended Iowa State Teachers College and University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Irene taught school for several years at Mechlenberg Country School and at Castalia and Ossian Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Walter Joseph Blazek on June 6, 1936, Clear Lake, Iowa. One daughter was born to this union.
Irene worked in the Haltmeyer Hotel which her husband operated. She was secretary for many years for F.A. Moser Construction Co. in Farmersburg. Irene was active in many card clubs and local activities. She was a member of the Giard United Methodist Women where she was an active member for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith Kuhse, Monona; three grandchildren, Denice (Darwin) Vandersee, Fayette, Ken Kuhse, Strawberry Point, Kim (Fay) Kuhse, Barron, WI; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and two nieces, Marjorie Corlett, Farmersburg and Norma (M.J.) Moore, Riceville.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Di Anna Christine Kuhse; two great-grandchildren, Emily Vandersee and Amanda Kuhse; two sisters, Edna Kliefoth, Mabel Haltmeyer and one brother, Ervin Haltmeyer.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 15, 2008, at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Giard, Iowa. The Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiated. FAE SCHNEIDER
Fae L. Schneider, age 94, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 14, 1913, in Stanley, IA daughter of Egbert and Sarah (Miller) Feakes. She married Harold Novinska in 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1938. She later married Edmund Schneider in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1989. Fae moved to Wisconsin as a small child and lived in Grant and Crawford Counties all her life. She graduated from the Platteville Teachers College at age 17 and taught in rural schools in Grant County and the public and parochial schools in Prairie du Chien for the next 48 years. After retiring she continued her love of teaching at the Opportunity Center in Prairie du Chien for nearly 20 years. Outside of her family there was nothing Fae enjoyed more than being in the classroom. She often referred to teaching as the greatest occupation one could have.
She is survived by her daughter Judiann (Melvin) Quinn of Palatine, IL; daughter-in-law Emma Novinska of Boscobel; five grandchildren, Tim and Jeff (Beth) Novinska, Holly (Mike) Pease, Kerry (Susan) Quinn and Kelly (Matt) Gronlund; eight great grandchildren, Chelsea Novinska, Gavin and Brandi Pease, Adam, Sam and Ryan Quinn, Kate and Emma Gronlund, sisters in law; Germain Bukaski, Margaret Newberry, Esther Novinska, Virginia Douthit and Grace Novinska, brothers in law; Leo (Eileen) Schneider, Ray Kemnitzer and Joe (Marge) Novinska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son Gary Novinska; four brothers, William, Alvin, Leslie and Wayne Feakes; and two sisters, Margaret Alexander and Flossie Stenner.

Reita A. Hackett, age 68, of Boscobel, passed away on Friday February 15, 2008, at her home in Boscobel, after a courageous battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gerhigs Disease).
She was born on March 15, 1939, in Watterstown Township, Grant County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Daniel and Hazel (Grimesey) Trumm. She married Darrell Hackett on September 15, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Boscobel.
She is survived by her husband Darrell Hackett of Boscobel; her children, Mary Ann (Dan) Donlon of Postville Iowa, Mark (Linda) Hackett of Boscobel, Pamela (Mike) Bartels of Boscobel, John Hackett of Boscobel; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton Trumm of Bagley, Keith Trumm Sr. of Boscobel; three sisters, Renata (Vallie) Winch of Dickenson N.D., Lois (Chuck) Swenor of Beloit, Lucille (Henry) Gauger of Endeavor. Jason F. Hill, 36, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Tama IA passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born September 30, 1971, in Grinnell, Iowa, son of Hugh Hill and Barbara Yilek. He married Gina Kraus on June 17, 1995, in Cascade, Iowa.
He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and was employed in the family business, Sut-Hill Motors in Prairie du Chien.
Jason was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He loved boating, water skiing and Jason's smile could brighten anyone's day.
He was a member of St. John's Church in Prairie du Chien, Ducks Unlimited and Kiwanis.
He was a great family man and is survived by his wife Gina and their children Tessa Katelyn and Tyson Fredrick; his father Hugh "Sut" (Tammy) Hill of Prairie du Chien, and his mother Barbara (Daryl) Yilek Probst of Owatonna, Minn.; a sister Whitney Hill of Prairie du Chien; two step brothers; Brad (April) Humble of McGregor, and Chad Humble of Overland KS.

DORIS JELINEK
Doris M. Jelinek, 78, of Prairie du Chien passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse. She was born July 17, 1929, in Bagley, daughter of Joseph and Isabelle (Kirschbaum) Fishler.
She married Charles Jelinek on August 24, 1948, at St. Johns Church in Patch Grove. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2001. Together they farmed in the Mt. Hope area until they moved to Prairie du Chien in 1995.
Doris worked in nursing for over 25 years, most recently for Homeward Bound. She enjoyed farming, snowmobiling, playing cards, square dancing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. Her door was always open and the coffee pot was on.
She is survived by three sons; Dennis (Cindy) and Gary (Cindy) Jelinek both of Prairie du Chien, Jeff (Shirley) Jelinek of Mt. Hope; two daughters, Karen (Phil) Spotts of Madison, and Rhonda (Dave) White of Darlington; a daughter-in-law Madonna Jelinek of Bagley, a brother Loren (Diane) Fishler of Prairie du Chien; two brothers-in- law Ray Marmann of Farmersburg, Iowa and Richard Ginsterblum of Prairie du Chien; a sister-in-law Margaret Kusinski of Briggsville; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Steve, a brother Donald Fishler, two sisters, Rose Ginsterblum and Margaret Marmann and a grandson Brent Jelinek.

MARTHA McCULLICK
Martha L. McCullick, 72, of Boscobel and formerly of Green Bay, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Boscobel Area Health Care in Boscobel.
She was born on January 28, 1936, in Bridgeport Township Crawford County Wisconsin, the daughter of Earl and Martha (Swatek) Pulda.  She married Theodore McCullick on October 24, 1953 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2007.
She is survived by two sons Douglas McCullick of  Wauzeka, Thomas (Linda) McCullick of Mt. Horeb; one daughter, Donita "Sue" (Jeffrey) Miller of Beloit; eight Grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Adeline (Lonnie) Millin of Danbury. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Francis, Earl, Bernard Pulda; one sister, Alma Armstrong; one Grandson, Greg McCullick.

LERENA BRONSON
A longtime Prairie du Chien businesswoman, Lerena Bronson, 75, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born August 29, 1932, in Patch Grove, daughter of Ray and Nina (Schrake) Allbee.
She married LaVerne Bronson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1970.
She owned and operated the HiWay Grill in Prairie du Chien for over 40 years. In 1998 she received the President's Award by the Chamber of Commerce,
She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Mark) Barrette of Steuben, and her son, Michael Bronson of Eastman; two sisters, Ruth Critchlow of Bloomington, and Wilma Valley of Prairie du Chien; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed especially by her special friend Robert Steele who was at her side at the time of her death. Irene H. Halverson, 87, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at the Prairie Maison Health Care Center.
She was born November 23, 1920 in Elma, Iowa, daughter of Rudolph and Erma Buchholz.
She married Hiram Halverson in 1940. They lived several years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Irene worked at Wilson Foods until they retired and moved to Prairie du Chien. Irene enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting and playing cards.
She is survived by two brothers, Earl Buchholz of Savannah, Ill. and Glen (Nina) Buchholz of Toledo, Ohio; a sister-in-law Edna Buchholz of Mt. Carroll, Ill. and a brother-in-law Palmer Halverson of Monona, Iowa along with many nieces and nephews.

George E. "Poncho" Welsch age 79 of Prairie du Chien passed away Tues., Feb. 5, 2008 at his home. He was born June 25, 1928 in Prairie du Chien, son of Clarence and Wilhelmina (Campbell) Welsch. He married Mary Ann LaPointe in April of 1948. She preceded him in death in September of 1974. He worked at National Decorated Metals in Prairie du Chien, and as a contractor in a local construction business. He later retired from 3M Company in 1990. Poncho loved fishing and working in his yard. He is survived by his loving companion Ann Fulcher of Prairie du Chien, a daughter Jane (John Rybarczyk) Howe of Prairie du Chien, 2 sons; Michael (Julie) Welsch of Granbury, TX and Richard (I-Chen) Welsch of Mauni Lani, HI, a brother Floyd (Norma) Welsch of Prairie du Chien, 5 sisters; Jeanne Novey, Ruth Ann Moris, Linda (Robert) Schneider and Rita (Larry) Hinkel all of Prairie du Chien, and Maxine (Richard) Krogman of Arizona, several grand and great grandchildren along with Mark (Rochelle) Fulcher and their children Woodrow and Mallory Fulcher. June E. Novacek age 91 of Wausau and formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Weds., Feb. 6, 2008 at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1917 in Kalamazoo, MI, daughter of Christian and Ruth (Bouillon) Kramer. She married Joseph Novacek on Sept. 4, 1939 at St. John's Church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1994. She worked in the drapery dept. for Knapp's Home Furnishings for many years in Prairie du Chien. She was an active member of St. John's Church in Prairie du Chien and was an avid golfer. She is survived by a daughter Judi (Dan) Errthum of Mosinee, WI, a son Gerald Novacek of Prairie du Chien, a sister Alice Nichols of Apache Junction, AZ along with 2 grandchildren; Travis and Kurt Errthum. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

ALMA LUCEY
Alma A. Lucey, age 92, of Milwaukee and formerly of Eastman died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.
She was born July 9, 1915, in Eastman, daughter of Thomas and Anna (Wagner) Fisher. She married Paul Lucey on June 21, 1939 in Eastman. He preceded her in death in 1989. Alma began teaching in rural country schools in the Eastman area. She later taught at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School and in the Milwaukee Public School District, retiring after over 40 years of teaching. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, quilting and was an extensive traveler. She was a member of the Rome Auxiliary Fire Dept. the "Romemakers" and loved to fish.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Koenig of New Berlin, and Kathleen (Frank) Schwartz of Steuben; two sisters, Mae Sprosty of Davenport, IA and Muriel Neumann of Green Bay; five grandchildren, Jeff, Jason and John Koenig, Jessica Gagliano and Jenna Schwartz along with one great grandchild Zoe Gagliano. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother Thomas Fisher Jr.

Harold "Bud" E. Palmer
Racine- Harold "Bud" E. Palmer, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 1, 2008.
Bud was born in Prairie du Chien, WI on February 4, 1928 to the late Harold E. and Edith (nee: Valley) Palmer. Tragically, Bud's father died one month prior to his birth. A graduate of Prairie du Chien High School, he went on to study police science. Bud has lived in Racine for most of his life.
Bud faithfully served our Country with the United States Army in the Korean War. He was united in marriage with the love of his life, Mildred M. Kohn on September 26, 1953 in Gary, Indiana. Shortly after, a second ceremony was held in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Racine. With a profound Catholic faith, Bud and Millie are members of St. Sebastian Parish in Sturtevant.
Bud had been employed by Belle City Malleable, the Racine Police Department and Twin Disc, retiring in 1985. Through the years, Bud and Millie were proud host parents for several foreign exchange students. Bud and Millie had accomplished vacationing in all 50 states. They also enjoyed their winter home in Florence, Arizona and were able to visit friends in many different countries. Bud was a devoted volunteer driver for the American Red Cross, a volunteer usher at the Racine Theatre Guild, and a member of the Racine Police Benevolent Assn. Bud and Millie shared the experience of being foster parents for two babies. Bud also drove a school bus for special needs children in Racine. Among his interests, Bud was an extreme sports fan. He was an avid golfer, Brewers fan and Packers fan. Above all, he was a phenomenal husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his loving wife of over 54 years, Millie of Racine; children, Thomas Palmer of Milwaukee; Susan Whorley of Racine; Cheri (James) Curtin of Woodinville, WA; and Marc Palmer of Racine; grandchildren, Ali and Nick Whorley; Madeline and James Palmer Curtin; extended children of the foreign exchange program, Setsuko Miura of Japan and Martin Lindgren of Sweden; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and cherished friends too numerous to mention by name.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Helen) Palmer.
In accordance with Bud's wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126-95th St. in Sturtevant, on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the Mass in the church hall. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. Entombment, with military honors, will take place on Friday, February 8th, at S. WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 9:00 am. In memory of Bud, memorials to Heifer International, American Macular Degeneration Foundation, or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society have been suggested.

HARRY TRAUTSCH
Harry Trautsch age 91 of Eastman passed away Sun., Feb. 3, 2008 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. He was born Apr. 9, 1916 in Eastman, son of Louis and Cora (Stuckey) Trautsch and graduated from Bonney School. He married Edna Seymour on Aug. 22, 1939 in LaCrosse, WI. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2001.  
Harry farmed in the Eastman area his entire life. To compliment farming,  he was a livestock dealer  for many years.   When he was a young man during the depression Harry worked in northern Wisconsin  CCC camps, clearing forests. Later in life, his love for the outdoors led Harry to work in the woods as a local logger.  He served on the Board of Directors of the DeSoto State Bank for many years. He loved playing cards, shooting pool, watching softball games,  hunting, and visiting with family and friends.  He is survived by a son, Robert (Elizabeth) of Eastman, two daughters Janice McGrath (Hazel Hanson) of Sonewall, Texas and Mardell (William) Winter of Prairie du Chien, seven grandchildren, Sherri (Tom) Langfeldt, Sue (Gary) Mara, Deb (Pat) Wagner, Cindy (Steve) Smith, Lori (Mike) Lehner, Scott Trautsch and Barry Winter, and twenty-eight great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lyle, Paul and Ivan Trautsch, and an infant sister.

BRUCE NOVEY
Bruce R. Novey, age 57, of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1950, in Prairie du Chien, son of Edward and Jeanne (Welsch) Novey. He married Mary McWilliams on June 23, 1973, at St. John's Church in Prairie du Chien, where he spent the majority of his life. Bruce graduated from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse in 1972 majoring in Business and Mathematics. He married Mary (McWilliams) on June 23, 1973 at St. John's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. He spent thirty-three years with 3M as a Systems Analyst and Information Technology Supervisor.
Bruce had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He eagerly applied his sharp intelligence to solve complex problems or in spirited discussions where he always wanted the last word. Always a conversationalist, Bruce had the ability to turn strangers into friends. He derived immense satisfaction from his career and the great times he enjoyed with family. Bruce took pleasure in traveling, camping, boating, woodworking, and home improvement projects along with playing cards with the "cabin crew." He also actively volunteered in the community through his membership on the St. John's Church Parish Council and the United Way Board.
Bruce is survived by his wife Mary; his children Sarah (Cory Gapstur) Novey, Grant (Jessie Clifford) Novey; mother Jeanne Novey; brothers Ed, Gary (Ann), Don (Jodi), Greg (Maggie), and Tom (Wendy) Novey; sisters Beverly Graham and Barbara Novey; brother-in-law J.T. McWilliams; and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Edward J. Novey.
A Mass of Resurrection was Feb. 2, 2008 at St. John's Catholic Church, Rev. Hubert Boschert S.J. officiated. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Clement V. Mezera, age 83, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Wauzeka, son of Frank and Margaret (Konichek) Mezera. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Marilyn Stuckey on Dec. 12, 1959. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1997. He worked at Oscar Mayer in Madison and later owned and operated Clem's Tavern in Wauzeka. He retired from 3M Company in Prairie du Chien in 1992. He was a 50 year member of the Wauzeka American Legion Post 458. Clem was an avid baseball and Green Bay Packer fan.
He is survived by three daughters, Lynn (Dennis) Hardy of Cross Plains, Theresa (Dale Bittner) Mezera of Prairie du Chien and Tammy (Aaron) Scheckel of Westby; three sons, Gerald (Karen) of Morrisonville, Paul (Chris) of Prairie du Chien and Rick (Connie) of Wauzeka, a brother George (Marie) of Wauzeka; two sisters, Albina Payne of Downers Grove, IL and Anna Marie Martin of Wauzeka, along with three grandchildren. MARGARET GRELLE
Margaret Ann Grelle, 63, of La Crosse, Peggy to her family and Mrs. Grelle to her many students at St. Pius and Aquinas Middle School from the years 1972 until 2005, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at her home.
Peggy was born June 14, 1944, (Flag Day), in Prairie du Chien, to Lyle and Juanita (Foss) Johnson. She graduated with honors from Prairie du Chien High School in 1962 and later graduated with honors from UW-L with a BS in Education. Her vocation was teaching elementary and middle school students. On June 20, 1964 she married John C. Grelle in Prairie du Chien.
Peggy is survived by her husband, John; her sons, Michael (Dawn) Grelle and their children, Heather and Matthew of Madison, and Christopher (Bridget) Grelle and their children, Aidan and Bryce of Stoddard, Wis.; her brothers, Kenneth (Faye) Johnson and their family, and James (Teri) and their family, her favorite and devoted sister, Nancy (Bill) Stuart and their son, Tom all of the Prairie du Chien area; two brothers-in-law, Fred (Barbara) Grelle and their family of Madison, and William (Mary) Grelle and their family of Onalaska; and one sister-in-law, Martha (Jack) Finn and their family of Grande Ledge, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Valerie M. Bell, 64, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of Earl and Alice (Johnson) Congdon.
She married Gary Bell on November 14, 1992, in Prairie du Chien.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband Gary of Prairie du Chien; four sons, Gerald (Angie Jensen) Meyer of Janesville, Randal (Kristine Valentine) Meyer, Roger (Valerie Ingle) Meyer and Richard (Sherry) Meyer all of Prairie du Chien; three daughters, Kristine (Wade) Bartol, Laura Strauman and Kelly (Steven) Ingle all of Prairie du Chien; a sister Audrey (Vincent) Peplinski of Whitewater, 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Meyer, her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

GLEN DONOVAN
Glenn Donovan, 50, of Ferryville, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. Glenn was having some breathing issues and was admitted to the hospital on Monday where later that morning he suffered from a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in his lung. ROGER LUND
Roger C. Lund 79, of rural Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday January 22, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Madison, after a brief illness. He was born January 4, 1929, in Boscobel, son of Morris and Oma Belle (Clark) Lund. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps in 1948, and served two tours during the Korean Conflict and one during the Viet Nam War. He retired after 20 years in service to his country. He married Peggy Saunders on October 17, 1953. She preceded him in death on April 18, 1969. He later married Janet Markin-Steele on August 15, 1970. After the service Roger worked as a heavy equipment operator for Slaght Construction. In 1975 he was asked by then Sheriff Bill Fillbach to serve as Under Sheriff where he spent the next 22 years in many capacities. He retired from law enforcement in 1997. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion Post 458 and the Eagles Club. He is survived by his wife Janet of rural Prairie du Chien; his children, Lois (Robert) Basso of Fredericksburg, Va., Roger (Cathy) Lund of Wauzeka, Linda (Greg) Klemm of Wauzeka, Teek (Folko) Landvogt of Monona, Iowa, Robert (Vicki) Lund of Wauzeka, Marcia (Jody Rogers) Markin of Guttenberg, Iowa, Richard (Ann Lerch) Markin of Prairie du Chien, Betty (Mark) Konichek of Wauzeka, Deanna (Todd) Koresh of Prairie du Chien, Debra Lund of Prairie du Chien, Stacey (Jerry) Reed of Ferryville, and Ryan (Jennifer Harris) Lund of Prairie du Chien, his nephew and farming son Steve (Kim) Lund of Wauzeka, 34 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and his twin brother Richard "Tim" Lund.
Funeral services were Saturday at the United Methodist Church, in Wauzeka, Rev. Lynn Schreck officiating with burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery. Military Rites were accorded by the Wauzeka American Legion Post 458 and the Wisconsin Dept. of Veteran's Affairs, Eagles Club tribute. Janet L. Day, 66, of Seneca, passed away Monday, January 21, 2008, in the Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien.
She was born in Chatfield, Minn., April 24, 1941, the daughter of Ralph and Louis (Martin) Bowman.
She married Harold T. Day, October 10, 1968 in Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2004. They lived in rural Seneca Township until moving to Seneca in 1974.

Harry G. McGuire, Sr. 55, of rural Eastman, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 18, 2008, at his home.
He was born November 15, 1952, in Chicago, Ill.
He married Barbara Sullivan on September 25, 1971, in Waukegan, Ill.
He worked as a toolmaker for Anchor Coupling in Libertyville, Ill. until retiring to the Eastman area in 2001 to become an amateur farmer. He is survived by his wife Barbara of Eastman; a son Harry (Valerie) McGuire Jr. of Storm Lake, Iowa; a daughter Carrie (Doug) Smith of Sun Prairie; his mother, Jeri Henning of Antioch, Ill.; a brother Tim McGuire of Cassville; a sister Jeanette Collier of Barrington, Ill. along with three grandchildren; Haley, Zoey and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Henning.

Max M. Gilberts age 77 of Prairie du Chien passed away Sun., Jan. 20, 2008 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 9, 1930 in Fennimore, WI, son of Milo and Helen (Finnegan) Gilberts. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Sylvia Jones on Aug. 4, 1956 at St. Paul's Chapel in Madison, WI. He worked as a mechanic for the family business, Gilbert Motors in Fennimore and later for International Harvester in Prairie du Chien. He later worked for Wolf Machine Shop in Prairie du Chien until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 184 of Fennimore and the Campion Council Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Sylvia Gilberts of Prairie du Chien, a son Mark (Donna) Gilberts and a daughter Maria Wolford both of Prairie du Chien, a brother Pat (Jane) Gilberts of Upper Saddle, NJ, a sister Mary (Norbert) Brandt of St. Germain, WI, 8 grandsons; Brian, Nathan, Nicholas, Jason and Bradley Gilberts, and Ryan, Jonathon and Derrin Wolford along with 4 great grandchildren; Emma, Alex and Mikayla Gilberts and Boston Jax Wolford. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers; Charles and Paul Gilberts. ROGER ESSER
Roger D. Esser, 72, of Bagley, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Prairie du Chien Maison after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1935 in Wyalusing Township the son of Harry and Fern (Clark) Esser. Roger graduated from Bagley High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He farmed all of his life in the Brodtville area. Roger loved a good game of euchre, playing pool, and chopping wood. Surviving are his daughter, Lori (Randy) O'Brien, Boscobel; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his sister, Lavonne (Milton) Ellis, Prairie du Chien and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services were Saturday, at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington, Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was in Brodtville Cemetery, Wyalusing Township.

JAMES MOMBO WAGNER
James A. "Mombo" Wagner 55, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at his home. He was born September 13, 1952, in Wabasha, Minn. son of Arthur and Marvel (Meyer) Wagner.
He married Judy LaPointe in 1975. He worked for Gencor-Bituma Manufacturing for many years and was a talented masonary tuck pointer and carpenter.
Jim was well known for his sense of humor and his ability to be the life of the party.
He is survived by a son Billy (Stephanie) Wagner of Prairie du Chien; four brothers, John (Deanna) Wagner of Bridgeport, Tim (Ruth) Wagner of Farmersburg, Iowa, Roy (Helen Ann Zabel) Wallin of Prairie du Chien and Tom Wolke of Waseca, Minn.; a sister Kathy (Bernie) Rosauer of Prairie du Chien along with his granddaughter Kaitlyn. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his dear friend Beverly. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Arthur Wagner.

Marcella Gregerson, 85, of Prairie du Chien, passed away January 1, 2008, at Prairie Maison, in Prairie du Chien.

RICHARD CONNELL
Richard T. Connell, 90, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 10, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, as the result of a stroke.
He was born October 4, 1917, in Conrad, Iowa, son of Thomas E. and Margaret L. O'Connor Connell. He married Eleanor L. Gindt Jan. 20, 1940, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo. Richard was a member of the Waterloo Police Department from 1943 to 1974, retiring with the rank of Captain. Dick was a sports fan and an avid golfer and sportsman, sometimes stopping at the Prairie du Chien Hiway Grill on fishing trips. Along with Eleanor, he took particular pride in wood finishing and the upkeep of their home and yard. Dick was proud of his Irish ancestry and Catholic faith.
Survivors include three sons including Charles (Terri) Connell of Prairie du Chien; eight grandchildren including Valerie Connell of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Prairie du Chien; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; 29 nieces and 16 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1966, his mother in 1977, his three brothers and five sisters, and his wife, Eleanor, October 31, 2007.
Services were Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
