DANIEL MILLER
Daniel Miller went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 27,
2004, after suffering a massive stroke on Wednesday, March 24 at 6:45 p.m. He
was 68 years old. Dan was born May 9, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa to Rev. Eugene
Miller and Gladys Hagenstein-Miller. Dan was the fourth and youngest boy, then
sister Sylvia came along eight years later. This year Dan celebrated fifty years
in ministry, beginning the year after high school when he and a friend took
their guitars and traveled as evangelists, or as he phrased it, "to set the
world on fire!" He then attended North Central Bible College in Minnesota and
left to serve a church in Jewel, Iowa with a young preacher, David Pillow. After
that he served as pastor in Open Bible Churches in Clear Lake, Iowa, Mason City,
Iowa and Madison. He chose to leave the church ministry in 1968, returning to
work in a radiator shop in Waterloo, Iowa, later buying his own business in
Waverly, Iowa. Waterloo is where he met his wife, Noreen. They were married in
1973 and began their ministry, traveling weekends to Midwest states and Florida,
presenting Gospel music concerts and a preaching ministry, including radio and
television programs. After several years, Dan sensed the Lord calling him back
to church ministries. He attended UNI and Garrett Theological Seminary. He sold
his radiator business in Waverly, Iowa and began serving the Dunkerton United
Methodist Church for ten years. He was then called to serve the Armstrong-Dolliver
United Methodist Churches for five years. After recovering from a stroke in
2001, Dan and his wife moved to McGregor, where they continued their preaching
and Gospel music ministry. Dan's musical gifts of playing the piano, guitar,
singing and his writing and preaching will always be remembered. Dan was
everything you could ask for in a husband, father, grandfather and friend. His
strength of character, integrity and his close walk with the Lord form a legacy
for his children, grandchildren, and for all who knew him. His sense of humor
and love of life constantly drew people toward him. Everything he did stemmed
from his love of God-Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He walked with Jesus Christ,
knew the joy of serving him and wanted everyone to know the true peace and joy
of complete surrender of our lord. Dan and his wife Noreen retired to the
McGregor area in 2001 where their new home and the beautiful area surrounding
the Mississippi River gave them continuous joy and wonder. Surviving are his
wife Noreen; children, Susan Miller of Sacramento, Calif., Candace (Wayne)
