Lack of members won't hold Indians back

According to Coach Jamie Link, Seneca has low numbers when it comes to the number of members on the team compared to others in the conference.
But Link believes that the team's strengths in leadership from seniors Jarrett Brandes and Jessica Alanis along with a strong group of underclassmen will help to overcome any
weakness that the team might have.
Jarrett Brandes, Tyler Grimsled, Michael Stuckey, Brock Reynolds, Drew Fisher, Jessica Alanis and Holly Aspenson are all returning letterwinners that will be giving their best
shot this year in track.
Missing from the team roster will be Ken Horsfall, who graduated last year. Horsfall was last year's conference champ in shot put.
"While they are inexperienced, we have a large group of young, enthusiastic throwers on the team this year," said Link.
Last year, the boys ended fifth in the conference and the girls ended sixth. Link is hoping that boys team will finish in the top half of the conference while he believes it will
be difficult for the girls team to break into the top half of the conference with the lack of girl members on the team to score enough points. Link feels that North Crawford,
Ithaca and Kickapoo/La Farge will be the teams to beat in the conference this year.

Kurt Wallin, head coach of the Seneca baseball team, believes his team will be a contender in the conference this year. According to Wallin, De Soto, La Farge
and Wauzeka-Steuben are the top teams in the conference that the Indians will need to beat.
With 10 returning letterwinners, Wallin and Assistant Coach Shawn Lenzendorf have a pretty good team. Returning letterwinners include Ryan Smith, Trenton Payne, Ethan Grimsled,
Justin Redman, Brandon Johnson, Derek Wall, Vincent Payne, Dale McCullick, Eric Trautsh and Brady Long.
The team may have lost their starting pitcher, Todd Trautsch, who graduated last year, but Wallin says they are making up for his lost talent by continuing to develop more young
pitchers.
Wallin feels that a good team defense, pitching and manufacturing runs on offense, along with playing hard will be the keys to the team's success this season.
"Hitting and base running are areas that we need improvement," comments Wallin, "but defense and the motivation to play hard are the teams strengths."
Dedication, hard work will ensure success

Head Coach Carl Wall of the Seneca High School girls' softball team believes that dedication, hard work and good communication are the team's strengths for the
2010 season.
With a 9-5 conference record last year, Wall believes that their conference outlook is pretty good, but Wauzeka-Steuben and De Soto will be good contenders.
Helping Wall with the team this year are assistant coches Erika Clark and Huey Kinzie.
Returning to the team again this year are letterwinners Cortney Trautsch, Pam Wall, Molly McCullick, Kalli Boland, Sawyer Roberts and Ally Ostrander.
Wall admits that he'll miss last year's seniors Abby Olson, Mandi McCullick, Beth Manning, Hillary Bark and Kelsey Wall but he believes that there are some very ambitious girls
ready to step in and pick up where these starters left off.
"We encourage everyone to come out and cheer on our team!" said Wall. |
