Staying free from injury will be one of the keys to success for this season's River Ridge girls basketball team.

"We only have eight varsity players this year so we have to stay healthy," said Coach Caron Townsend. "As always we will rely heavily on our defense to make us successful."

Townsend said that Potosi and River Ridge should contend for the Western Six Rivers title this season. Highland should also be a tough competitor she said.

"I believe we will be strong defensively. We have good speed in some positions and three 5-9 girls so that gives us some size on the inside," Townsend said.

Returning letterwinners include Laura Martin Desiree Knapp Natasha Smith Megan White Traci Kirschbaum and Mickey Breuer as the Lady Timberwolves look to improve upon last season's 12-2 conference mark and an overall record of 15-8.

First-year Coach Chris Earle said that getting up and down the court well will be a key to success for the River Ridge High School boys' basketball team this season.

Earle said that the Timberwolves will need to overcome a lack of height this season but the River Ridge team is athletic and lanky.

Earle counted Potosi and Benton as the top teams in the Western Six Rivers Conference this season but River Ridge will be giving it all they have as they strive to finish as high as possible and to also improve upon last season's 9-12 overall record.

Providing leadership and experience to the Timberwolves will be returning letterwinners Weston Nimetz Ron White Jordan Redman Matt Mumm and Cody Martin.

Helping to prepare the Timberwolves for a tough conference season will be Assistant Coach Mitch Ames.

The River Ridge-Cassville wrestling team is looking to win the conference championship this season.

"New Lisbon and De Soto are very good teams and both are ranked in the state," said Coach Joe Langmeier. "We hope to battle them for the conference championship as we took third place just seven points behind De Soto last year."

River Ridge-Cassville will also be working to add another 11-win season to its resume of recent years. The Timberwolves have had five straight winning seasons. They were 11-4 two years ago and 11-3 last season.

The middle and upper weights are very experienced and should carry the team said Langmeier. The lighter weights are younger and it will be important for them to win or to not give up a pin Langmeier said.

Ryan Vogt Eric Vogt Coty Bradley Kevin Seng Kyle Johnstone and Brandon Laufenberg are the returning letterwinners this season. Ryan Vogt is a returning state qualifier and Kyle Johnstone is a returning sectional qualifier.

Assistant Coach Adam Guthrie will be helping to prepare the team this season.
