The Blackhawks will need to work on improving their offensive and defensive rebounding as they strive to better last season's 8-13 record reiterated Assistant Coach Paula Shedivy who noted that a strength of the team is experienced players. The Blackhawks feature seven returning letterwinners including Chandler White Cole Lewis Ryan Pedretti Kyle McCoy Roger Keister Kenny Ingle and Tanner Roach. In its early games this season the team has exhibited a lot of quickness hustle and desire and has given opponents problems with intense ball-hawking full court pressure that has produced turnovers and some good scoring opportunities. Aiding Banasik in preparing the team for top Southwest Wisconsin Conference rivals such as River Valley and Platteville will be assistant coaches Shedivy Jan Waller Gary Keeney and Brent Seamans.
Scoring, quickness to propel PdC girls towards top"We hope to have our team finish in the top three in the conference and improve on our season last year of 14-8," said Head Coach Tom Cowley about the -10 Prairie du Chien girls basketball team. Prairie du Chien doesn't have a real deep bench this season but the Lady Blackhawks should overcome that challenge with an experienced lineup. "We have three starters that are returning from a young team last year with some younger players from the junior varsity that have varsity playing experience," said Cowley. "Also with the players returning we have some scoring and quickness." Cowley said that Richland Center and Lancaster are expected to be the top teams in the SWC this season. However he said that Prairie du Chien Platteville and others could make a push for the top. Team members for Prairie du Chien this season include Haley Mikkelson (165 points 115 rebounds) Taylor Lawrence Sarah Schneider Emily Jackson Taylor Moret Morgan Banasik (284 88 41 assists) Lainee Bulawa Courtney Lewis (289 141 115) Aspen Wikan Kaitie Panka and Anne Riebe.
Healthy gymnasts to concentrate on bars, beamStaying healthy and free from injury will be the keys to a successful -10 season for the Prairie du Chien High School gymnastics team said Head Coach Deb Kozelka. "Cuba City and Platteville are the top two teams in the conference," said Kozelka. "Hopefully we will have a couple of state qualifiers again this year." Kozelka said that the team will need to concentrate a bit more on the bars and the beam as they strive to improve upon last season's scores and personal bests. "We have always been strong on the floor exercise and the vault," said Kozelka. "We need to concentrate on the uneven parallel bars and the balance beam this year." Leading the way for the team this season will be returning letterwinners Jamie Feye Lauren Malia Tasha Buchheit Claire Oehler and Kaliann Bauer. Helping to prepare the team for top SWC rivals such as Platteville and Cuba City will be Assistant Coach Kris Oehler.
PdC wrestling team shows a lot of potentialBy Coach Mel Dow With the loss of six quality seniors who had many varsity matches for the Blackhawks the team is looking to circle up and start a new run at the conference and state. The Blackhawks only returning state qualifier Evan Sinram is challenging his teammates to make the trip to Madison this winter when he goes back to get on the award stand. The team has the attitude to follow the path Will Davis blazed last year in being only a second-year varsity starter and qualifying for state. Many have seen that with high goals strong work ethic and the program's environment the team is going to have others following. The upper weights for the team are going to be powerful with great support from some talented lighter weights. Look forward to four solid home dual performances and if you look to catch some of the away action the schedule is packed with some of the greatest competition in both Wisconsin and Iowa. The Bi-State Tournament in 12/is one of the greatest mid-season tests for teams and individuals alike. The team has the potential to be strong in both team duals and individual events by season's end. |
